Spanish Course Granada

learn Spanish in Granada - Introductionspanish course Granada

The legend of Boabdil, the last king of the Moors of Granada, is still alive and well in Granada. After the Christians conquered the city in 1492, he was banished into exile. At a certain point from the city, he turned around to take one last look at his beloved Granada, sank his head and began to weep. In that moment he remembered his mother's words, "Do not cry as a woman for something that you were unable to defend as a man".

Anyone who has visited Granada at least once can understand Boabdil because the atmosphere of Granada is fantastic each and every day. Gypsies playing their guitars in the streets, young Americans pursuing the tracks of Ernest Hemingway, artists absorbed in their work, tourists everywhere, Spanish students on their way to the university and intellectuals in the cafes and numerous "tapas" bars can all be seen in one day.

Granada is a scenic city at the foot of the Sierra Nevada, a relic of a thousand and one nights. The warmest coast in Europe, the "Costa Tropical" can be reached within 45 minutes. The highest mountain of the Iberian Peninsula is also at an arm's distance. Granada, the cradle of the most diverse cultures, was always a beloved city. Romantic 19th century intellectuals lived here, as well as the ancient Greeks, Romans, Phoenicians and the Moors. Granada is certainly the city in Europe with the most evident traces of the Moor Empire. The majesty of the Alhambra palace dominates the city. The Albaicin, the gypsies' quarter, the Sacromonte with the rebuilt small pubs and Flamenco stages are all witness to a lively past.

However, Granada is not just history. The "Granadinos" say that what counts is the present day. Granada is a lively university city in southern Spain with about 60,000 students which of course contributes to the vibrant night life. Visitors can enjoy themselves in the "bodegas", restaurants, cafes, bars and discos. The main action is centered in the streets "Pedro Antonio de Alarcón" and "Plaza Nueva".

Learn Spanish with Intercambio

Intercambio is not a Spanish language course, but an excellent opportunity to put into practice what has been learnt. Spanish students get in touch with Spanish language course participants at our Colegio Hispánico. Once a week, Spanish students are invited to a meeting. Granada is the ideal city for the Intercambio as there are many students and people interested in cultural exchange. There are also connections with the Goethe Institute, British Council and the University of Granada.

Generally Intercambio begins with daily coffee at the cafeteria of the Institute for Interpreting at the University of Granada (50 meters away!!!). Intercambio is a wonderful opportunity to make new friends and to experience the Andalusia way of life while you learn Spanish.

Leisure Time and Excursions in and around Granadaspanish course Granada

In the beginning, you will be quite busy discovering Granada - Alhambra, Albaicin, Sacromonte, the cathedral and museums. You might be thinking to yourself “Too much culture, too much past?” Never mind, the nights in Andalusia that are long… try the "Ruta de tapas". In the south, the coastal villages of the "Costa Tropical" such as Salobreņa or Almuņécar are famous for their white-painted houses, the steep lanes, the unusual Spanish-Arabian town planning and the unforgettable long beaches. The steep coast line with its sandy and rocky shores is also typical for this area.

You may also be attracted to the picturesque mountain villages (Alpujarras) of the Sierra Nevada, where the civilization was superseded by a time that still seems to be in the last century.

The Colegio organizes excursions to Seville, to the mountains or seaside, lectures, city sightseeing with explanations of the historical background, video evenings, Flamenco dance courses and many parties. Most of the parties will end up in the "Granada 10" or in "Camel"!
